Weight Loss that Works

Do you feel like you are always on a diet? And that you exercise regularly, yet continue to gain weight? "If you never had problems losing or maintaining your weight in your 20s or even in your early 30s, you may not be ready for what happens next," warns Madelyn H. Fernstrom, Ph.D., director of the Weight Management Center at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "Your metabolism slows by 5 percent each decade. Compared to age 25, you'll burn about 100 fewer calories a day at 35 and 200 fewer at 45. Do nothing, and you could gain eight to 12 pounds a year."

At Personally Fit we meet folks every day who are struggling with the effects of aging and trying to stay healthy and lose that "extra weight." One group in particular that turns to us for help is women who have not had success in losing their post pregnancy, postmenopausal weight despite their regular exercise and diet efforts.

If this is a challenge you are facing, we have good news for you! Personally Fit participates in the "Take Shape for Life" program as an alternative to fad diets and other weight loss programs. We became involved in this program along with many of our referring physicians as it embraces our concept of health and wellness.

There are three basic components to the program:

  1. Losing the Weight. The Medifast Five and One plan focuses on the clinically proven, doctor-recommended, portion-controlled nutrition of Medifast meals. These high protein, portion controlled meals were developed through research at John Hopkins University. They insure accelerated weight loss while maintaining lean body mass - you keep your muscle and lose the fat. Anticipated weight loss is two to five lbs per week. This weight loss is extremely motivating since it is accelerated and more importantly, you are still eating, not starving your body of essential nutrients, and maintaining the muscle you need.
  2. A Health Coach. Your coach guides you through the process, helping with your food choices, answering your questions about the program, and keeping you on track. This support system, as well as the available online support of physicians, nurses and nutritionists, is a great asset to participants.
